Ever been in an Awkward Conversation??? #SilenceKills

TOP 5 Topics to talk about when you feel an Awkward Silence coming while hanging out with Someone New

Everyone reading this has been through this.

Picture this:
You are hanging out with someone you have just become acquaint with for the first time. You guys are having a good time chatting and then all of a sudden there is this moment of silence. Both of you are thinking,
"What do I say next?"
"Should I ask about his/her day?"
"Is he/she going to say something?"
"Wow this is Awkward..."
I think most people can relate when I say that this silence is the most awkward and nerving thing ever
Well here are 5 ways that will potentially end the awkwardness that we all dread.

1. Ask Questions to get to know Them

Ultimately the most important thing to do is ask question, but only to a certain extent. You do not want to interrogate the person as if they are a suspect in a crime. Just ask a few questions and for each question build up a conversation from there. Here are some example of questions.
Ex: What was your most embarrassing moment?
       Whats your favorite color?
(I know this is a really basic question)
       Whats your favorite movie?
       (Might have a common interest)
What do you think is the most useless class in high school?
       (Could be interesting)
Whats your favorite thing to do?
      (Always good to know)
What shows do you watch on tv?
(Beneficial for everyone who is there. You can discover new shows.)
*One thing to keep in mind never ask questions that might weird most people out.
Ex: What's your blood type?
(This question is really stalker ish.. Unless you are stalking someone or talking about science               don't ask this)
       1. How old is the oldest cell in your body?
(Too nerdy and most people don't know)
       2. If you were a tree, what tree would you be?
(Just why... never ask this!! Honestly who cares!!!)
       3. Bright room or dark room?
(You might give people the wrong impression...)
       4. You can erase any horrible experience from your past. What will it be?
(Way too personal. Don't get deep on the first hangout)

2. Music

Between all the music that's out, you are bound to have a great conversation about music. From alternative to pop and maybe even country, a conversation should come out of discussing music. You might even find new music that sparks your interest.

3. Funny Experiences

Everyone enjoys hearing something funny. Laughter is always a good quality to bring to a conversation. One thing that you must make sure when telling others of a funny experience is that it is actually funny. If its only funny to you. then.. just expect the conversation to be more awkward than it was.

4. Sports

The world of sport is so vast that its almost impossible not to bring it up in a conversation. I know there are a few non sports fans out there, but there are a handful of people who are. From Soccer (personal favorite), to Basketball and Baseball to Golf, there are many sports you can talk about.

5. Current Events

IF you are going to talk about current events talk about celebrities, news, weather etc. One thing to never ever speak about when you are hanging with someone for the first time is:
** POLITICS**. I have spoke about politics with people that I've hung out with  for the first time and lets just say afterwards and to this day we avoid talking about it because all it bring is awkward silence.

So the next time you are hanging out with new people or talking to someone you are trying to become friends with be sure to these 3 rules:
- Keep the conversation going and be engaged
- Be sure to talk about your interests and theirs
- Be confident and have a good time
***Make sure to avoid politics and creepy questions***
Peace and Love,
Asia J.
